Kevin's birthday bonfire

What a fun night! Kevin's birthday was on the 18th. He invited bunch of friends and coworkers to attend his birthday bonfire at Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. It was a long drive from Irvine to San Pedro, but kindly Ali and his wife Helen offered me a ride. We arrived at Cabrillo Beach around 6:30pm, just in time to see Kevin and his friends trying to set the fire up. Honestly I did not like Cabrillo Beach as much as Corona Del Mar in Newport Beach, which had a better ocean view and a longer shore. However the food was marvelous. We had dried squid, "ban bells" (Vietnamese rice cakes with "stuff" on top of them), "Vietnamese tamales", egg rolls and spaghetti with more-than-perfect meat sauce. After we demolished most of the food we brought, we sat around the fire in a circle. The party next to ours played drums, and that was quite an entertainment for us. The fire was cozy and bright. I stuck my feet out to warm my toes while appreciating the beautiful night sky. When I got home I was covered in ashes, but I felt great, so relaxing and natural. I must say that I would attend a bonfire again.

There was one thing that dented my wonderful night. My cell phone had no receptions when I was in San Pedro. It was a pain for me and a few others who use Cingular or T-Mobile, because we kept borrowing phones from the smart people who chose Verizon or AT&T. Perhaps that is why the latter services cost more than the former.
