Moon Festival celebration

Sunday I took my mom to Rowlands Heights to see their annual Moon Festival celebration. The event took place on the plaza of Hong Kong Supermarket. I never liked that section of the city, because it was always crowded with people and cars. Luckily I found a parking space right after I pulled into the parking lot, so I didn't have to complain to my Mom about the trip there. Then as soon as I walked into the plaza, the smell hit me - OMG STINKY TOFU!! I swear, all the flies from the Los Angeles area were gathered around the booths. They must have really liked stinky tofu. I was pretty much suffocating, but I didn't want to be the only Chinese there who looked disgusted by the smell of this famous traditional Chinese street food. Without asking Mom what she would like to have for lunch, I dragged her into this restaurant called One Dragon (一条龙)where we used to go a lot several years ago. They were a Shanghainese style restaurant whose expertise was in flour dishes, such as beef noodles, onion tortillas, hand-grab tortillas, steamed meat buns, and leek fried buns, and guess what, we had all of the above for lunch. They were sooooooooo good and we were so stuffed! After lunch, Mom wanted to try stinky tofu. This was where I started to feel filthy. I had to fan the flies away while I was eating stinky tofu, because five or six flies were constantly trying to attack my tofu when I was sticking it into my mouth. Honestly the tofu didn't taste that authentic, although it was only the second time that I had them. I had them for the first time in Suzhou, China, bought from a street vendor in a historic town. That was soooooo good! And here is a tip, don't eat stinky tofu on a date. I was sure that my breath stunk after I finished my tofu. We were very very stuffed by then, but Mom wanted some boba tea. So I bought two cups of them and never finished mine. Beside food I also bought some cheap Chinese movies and soaps. One of them was called 老房有喜 aka. 表妹吉祥. I went home and watched five episodes in one sitting. They totally cracked Mom and me up. :D
